dc.description.abstract RESUMEN: ABSTRACT: This research work focuses on the analysis of the propagation of electromagnetic waves produced by a stationary source, through an optical fiber for both the stratified case and the almost-stratified case. In both cases, the transmitter and the receiver are separated by several horizontal and vertical distances. The analysis is based on a one-dimensional auxiliary spectral problem which is related to the wave equation for planarly layered media. A dispersion equation that satisfies the conditions of the boundary and the characteristics of the medium it is found. Through this equation the eigenvalues of the wave of the propagated modes can be found, which respond to the generation of energy in the field by means of asymptotic formulas for the far field, as it is the Green's function, which is used to obtain the transmission losses in dB in an optical fiber. Likewise, the SPPS (Spectral Para- meter Power Series) method is used to obtain analytical expressions of the specific functions of the spectral problem in the form of a series of powers. Some examples of the propagation of electromagnetic waves through the stratified and quasi-stratified optical fiber are calculated and graphically represented, as well as the influence that the field behavior has on the characteristics of the medium, such as small variations present in the cladding border, which allows for almost stratification. es
