Esta tesis analiza el papel que desempeñan las unidades económicas dedicadas a la recolección y comercialización del desecho sólido Polímero Etileno Tereftalato (PET) en la articulación de cadenas de valor y su aportación al empleo local en el municipio de Nezahualcóyotl. En primer lugar, se ofrece una caracterización económica del municipio con el fin de tener una mejor aproximación al entorno productivo local. Otro elemento importante en la investigación es el enfoque sustentable desde el punto de vista del proceso de gestión de los residuos sólidos, observado desde las agrupaciones o concentraciones de recolectores que realizan la actividad con un incentivo económico. El estudio de caso permite identificar los eslabones hacia adelante y hacia atrás de la cadena productiva del desecho sólido PET. A la luz del Sistema de Clasificación Industrial de América del Norte (SCIAN), se identifican las unidades económicas, la industria del reciclaje y la tecnología utilizada para la transformación del desecho sólido PET, además se obtienen los clasificadores para identificar las actividades eslabonadas. El trabajo de campo arrojó hallazgos importantes acerca de un grupo de establecimientos ubicados en el municipio resaltando la importancia de la colaboración entre estos, así como la indispensable participación de actores empresariales y autoridades competentes. Finalmente, esta tesis propone algunas estrategias que permiten mejorar el desempeño económico de los recolectores de PET en la cadena productiva, bajo la perspectiva de lograr un aprovechamiento sustentable de este desecho.
Abstract: This thesis analyzes the role played by the economic units dedicated to the collection and commercialization of the solid waste Polymer Ethylene Terephthalate (PET) in the articulation of value chains and their contribution to local employment in the municipality of Nezahualcóyotl. First, an economic characterization of the municipality is offered in order to have a better approximation to the local productive environment. Another important element in the research is the sustainable approach from the point of view of the process of solid waste management, observed from the groups or concentrations of collectors who carry out the activity with an economic incentive. The case study makes it possible to identify the forward and back links of the solid waste PET production chain. 11 In the light of the North American Industrial Classification System (SCIAN), economic units, the recycling industry and the technology used to transform solid waste PET are identified, and classifiers are also obtained to identify the crawling activities. The field work revealed important findings about a group of establishments located in the municipality highlighting the importance of collaboration between them, as well as the indispensable participation of business actors and competent authorities. Finally, this thesis proposes some strategies that allow to improve the economic performance of PET collectors in the production chain, under the perspective of achieving a sustainable use of this waste.
